GUATEMALA: Court delivers "historic" civil war conviction

This week a regional court found Felipe Cusanero Coj, a former army collaborator, guilty of the “forced disappearances" of six indigenous campesinos during Guatemala's bloody 36-year civil war and sentenced him to 150 years in prison. The conviction is the first of its kind and has been hailed by human rights activists as a significant step forward in redressing the injustices committed by the army during the civil war.
